Painting, a good idea when you have a cold?

I've had a cold for about a week.  Sore throat is gone.. but coughing, phlegm, and laryngitis has set in.  I took off a vacation day for today (asked for it a while back) so I could finish painting our bedroom and living room.  But my husband insists that I not paint while I'm sick.  I'm bored out of my mind watching tv, etc.!  Would painting in a well ventilated (windows open) room hurt me?  What about gardening?

The vapors from the paint wouldn't be good for your laryngitis since it would exacerbate your cough
