Pneumonia with lung damage

Hi,
One of my friends' mom is suffering from pneumonia. Upon consultation we are told that she is been suffering from this disease for quite a long time and has been ignored or wrongly treated for all these days. Now this is severed and her left lung is damaged to a greater extent. Can anyone please suggest if this can be cured? If so, what are the treatments to be followed?
