Sorry you feel so strongly about my comments.  On these forums each person can express their own opinion and I wrote what I know.

I do know more about the virus than I had written, but it is too lengthy to write it all down in a forum comment box.

You cannot catch or have "mono" 3 times.  Once you get the virus that causes it, usually in the teenage years or young adult, it is in our blood stream and symptoms may present themselves later and like you say with differing degrees and tiredness.

Unless you were tested for this virus using the Monospot test, which analyzes the production of heterophile antibodies by looking at a sample of the patient’s blood, you cannot say that you had it 3 times.

As you are so familiar with mononucleosis, you will know that there is no treatment or remedy or for this.  Only complete rest and the advice that I gave in my earlier posting can help the recovery process,  apart from not eating citric fruits.

You may have had similar symptoms that could have been caused by other virus or bacteria.

Mononucleosis varies in its' severity. Sometimes people feel very weak and sleep pretty much nonstop and sometimes they have swollen lymphnodes, etc. or some type of combination. I have had mono 3 times... I know what I am talking about

Hope you get on OK.

Your husband obviously has a more healthier immune system to yourself.

Best wishes.

By "mono" I presume you mean "mononucleosis ".

This is a viral infection sometimes called the "kissing disease".  Because it is caused by a virus rather than bacteria, no antibiotic will help.  There would be other symptoms as well as the congestion and sore throat.

My son was extremely ill with it, ill in bed.  It took months for him to rocover.

Have you been checked for mono? I've had it a few times and each time, the severity was different. The worst time was worse than what you are describing, but still, it sounds like you have mono.

Sorry that you are still having a problem.

As the antibiotic has not helped, I suggest you go back to the doctor for him to take a swab of  the throat.  This will then be analysed and the offending bacteria identified and treated accordingly.  If the throat problem is casued by a virus, then antibiotics will not help.

The problem can also be from allergies, like moulds, feathers, dust, animal dander and so on.

As a home remedy make sure you eat a healthy balanced diet, drink plenty of water 2-3 litres is recommended.  As you are still having a sore throat, drink warm drinks, like lemon and honey, or Ribena.  Eat plenty of fresh fruit and veg to get your intake of essential vitamins.  You could also try some multivitamins to give you a boost.

Take pain relief as recommended if required, antiseptic throat lozenges will also help.  For the congestion your doctor can prescribe a nasal spray (or you can purchase some yourself), take care with these because long term use can make the congestion worse.

You can also do steam inhalations over a bowl of hot water with some Vick or Olbas oil in, with your head over the steam covered with a towel.  Take care not to get scalded.

Gargling with salty water can also help ease the sore throat.

With the coughing fits, when you see the doctor next, ask him to listen to your chest to make sure that is clear, and also check your lung function to rule out asthma.  It is more likely that the coughing is the body's natural way of trying to get rid of an irritant in your throat (virus, bacterial allergy).

I presume your tonsils are still healthy (if you still have them).  If not you may be suffering from tonsilitis, or pharyngitis.

Hope you start to recover soon.

Best wishes
