Sore Throat

Hello all. I've had a sore throat now for about 3 weeks. I don't have any other cold symptoms, no fever, etc. The back of my throat is very red as are my tonsils. My glands in my neck are also a bit swolen.I figured three weeks was long enough for a virus to run it's course so I've made an appointment for tomorrow. I have had tonsilitis in the past (about 10 years ago) and had been told I have "cryptic" tonsils? (this information came from an ENT, doesn't everybody?). The ENT didn't want to remove them at the time until I had been treated a few more times for tonsilitis.

My question... have I waited long enough to see a doc (meaning, if it was a virus I should be over it by now)? I am not a person to run to the doctor for every cough and sniffle, but at this point I'm thinking I may need some antibiotics but I know docs don't like to prescribe them unless they absolutely have to. But, this is getting pretty old. I also don't want to waste an appointment if I should be waiting a little bit longer. This is a nasty season and I don't want to take an appointment for nothing if someone else could use it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)
