chest cold 5 weeks

by bbore, Jan 25, 2009 09:11AM
I am a 41 year old female. Dec. 14th I came down with a chest cold. ( no fever)Finally last Tuesday, I saw my ENT. He gave me two shots ( steroid & antibiotic) and also put me on Cipro.... When I went to him, I told him of a stabbing pain I get under rightbreast when Im coughing. He blew it off & said that if teh cough didnt clear up, Id need to get a chest X-ray. In the mean time, I dont want to cough because of the pain, yet thats the only way to get up teh green gunk in my lungs! So Friday I went to my orthopedic ( thinking maybe its a pinched nerve) He took and xray & said I do not have a broken rib... & he said it would be " unlikley " that it be a piched nerve in the chest. He dint say what could be causing the pain. Well aftrer that I figured Maybe I need the chest X-ray. So FridayI left a message with ENT saying, that I am still coughing, and in terrible pain when I cough & even when I raise my voice, I said Id like to get that Chest X-ray done, Of course he never called back! So its sunday, Ive been on the cipro 5 days, still hav e the cough & am still in horrible pain under right breast. My General Practitioner called in a muscle relaxer so Ive been resting all weekend, but if it is muscular, its nit getting any better. Im not sure if Im dealing w/ 2 seperate things. Cold & Muscle being pulled or if the pain has something to do with the cough itself... Oh well any advice cause Im pretty misrable

You posted a couple weeks ago, it appears, but I might can tell you what that pain is, that is accompanying your cough.  If you get pleuresy, you'll get that pain.  That's where fluid collects in one of the lungs, down at the bottom.  I had it one time, and I cannot recall what medicine I was given.  You said your orthopedic doc did an X-ray... well, he should still have it, and you can call the offices and have them forward it to whichever doc is overseeing all this.

You said you wanted advice because you're miserable, and right now I have a terrible chest cold that is really tearing me up, I put a post about it in this forum today.  Anyhow, one thing you can do is boil some water and drape a towel or pillow case over your head and put your face down into the steam and breathe it in for a while.  Take a BUNCH of aspirin to make the aches go away....sometimes two won't do it.  Also, in that painful spot, put heat on there, heat helps pain like that a lot.  To soothe your cough, you can mix honey into a glass of warm milk and drink that.  Let us know how things went for you!
