cough that won't go away

Hi, I have had a cough that won't go away.  It has been 6 weeks now.  First, I was prescribed amoxicillin, as the doc thought I had a sinus infection.  That helped the congestion a bit, but the cough didn't go away.  Then I was given a zpack which lessened the cough, but I still have the cough.  The cough is very light to nonexistent during the day, it really picks up at night.  It has been this way the entire time.  The cough is quite productive and lots of phlegm is present in my throat.  What should I do at this point?

If you haven't already, may I suggest you ask for chest x-rays?

Also, you might want to start suspecting acid reflux as a possible culprit of the cough at this point, particularly if it is picking up at night after you lay down.  See a gastroenterologist to do diagnostic testing to see if you have this, such as an EGD (an upper endoscopy where they take a look for acid related problems in esophagus (located in the throat), stomach and duodenum.  See private message for more info.

Acid reflux my ***..the drug companies push Dr's to prescibe pills for acid reflux..instead of giving antibiotics to cure the problem. .
