dry cough during sleep

my 2 and half yr old is having recurrent dry cough at night making it impossible for him to sleep.  its v dry and lasts for almost 2 hrs. doc has given epixyl ld syrup which is not helping him.  pls help me get some sleep......

epixyl has
Terbutaline Sulphate IP – 2.5 mg
Bromhexine HCl IP - 4 mg
Phenylephrine HCl IP – 2.5 mg Flavoured Syrup

which helps by:
Terbutaline : bronchodilation
Bromhexine : decrease mucous secretion and improve mucous transport
Phenylephrine : decongestant

there are many reasons for dry cough.

if it's asthma, inhaled steroids, antihistamines, leukotriene inhibitors (singulair) can help

if it's acid reflux, zantac can help (or even PPIs)

if it's a foreign body, a x-ray can look for it, but if it's not radio-opaque it may need to be seen by direct laryngoscopy

many different reasons, ask your doctor.
