Excerpt from Science Daily - Vitamin D crucial to activating immune defenses...
"Scientists have found that vitamin D is crucial to activating our immune defenses and that without sufficient intake of the vitamin - the killer cells of the immune system -- T cells -- will not be able to react to and fight off serious infections in the body. The research team found that T cells first search for vitamin D in order to activate and if they cannot find enough of it will not complete the activation process."
You can gargle with salty water to help ease your throat and get some medicated throat lozenges to soothe it (used as directed on the packet and make sure they are suitable for pregnant ladies). Drink plenty of warm drinks, like freshly squeezed lemon juice with hot water and honey. Or simply a spoonful of honey to ease your throat pain.
Steam inhalations to ease and loosen up the congestion in your nose and chest. To do a steam inhalation, boil up a kettleful of water and pour this into a large enough bowl (taking care not to get scalded). Put some Vick or olbas oil in (or any menthol drops). Bend your head over the bowl and cover your head and bowel with a towel. Breathe in the steam for about 10 minutes and do this 4 times a day.
You can also rub Vick on to your neck, chest and back.
Make an appointment to see your doctor because you may have a chest infection. The doctor will examine you and decide what medication will be suitable for you. Don't forget to tell him that you are pregnant.
Wishing you a speedy recovery and a wonderful pregnancy.
Sorry your so sick, you can take clariton, or zrtec. When I was pregnant they gave me a gentler antibiotic, and cough syrup. If it's been over a week I would make an apt.
