is it contagious??

my dad just found out from his doctor that he has a touch of pneumonia, and before he found out, he was here with my children, 2 and 1 years of age. can they catch it from him, for that matter can i catch it too? anyone ever caught it from someone else who has had it before??

theorganizer is mostly right, but you can get it from someone else with it.  it's just not common

Pneumonia is not contagious and it's very very very rare that someone catches it from another. People don't gain pneumonia from being exposed to it such as living with someone who has tuberculosis, usually it occurs after a cold and then bronchitis it develops when your immune system is really down. I think you have nothing to worry about children, well healthy children, have very strong immunity and can heal faster than older people. You should be worried more about your dad though :S
