nighttime cold medicine

i took a nighttime cold medicine, and im wide awake! this has happened to me in the past. i almost didnt take it for fear that i wouldnt be able to sleep, and here i am. oh and thank goodness i only took 1 pill as opposed to the 2 that was recommended. help!

Nighttime cold medicines often contain benadryl (diphenhydramine) which causes most folks to get drowsy.  In some people it makes them hyperactive and wakeful.  I wouldn't try it again.
