timely health care

I have pain in my spleen. When I move a certain way it feels as though its going to rupture. I have to wait 7 days to have an ultra sound because that is the earliest I can get an appointment. Should I just go to the emergency room at my local hospital or the local urgent care for faster care.

It is possible that it is something other than your spleen, like your stomach, liver, pancreas, or gallbladder causing the pain, and these may not be in immediate danger of rupturing or needing emergency treatment. I understand the joy of having to wait for an ultrasound appointment for a week for what ended up being a collapsed gallbladder (although I was worried that my spleen was also going to rupture because I also had mononucleosis and pain there, among other fears of what might be wrong). Even after the ultrasound I had to wait 2 weeks because the surgeons were on vacation, and almost everyday I considered going to the ER.

Is there any reason that you think it is your spleen besides the location of the pain, like blood tests or mono? It is your choice whether to go to the ER or urgent care, but if the doctors thought that you would be OK for a week, you will probably be fine (if you have very severe pain, are doubled over, then certainly go to the ER). You could call the doctors office and see if any appointments have opened up or if you should go to the ER. I am not a doctor, so this is not a substitute for your doctor's opinion or your own. Goodluck!
