Winter virus causing grief

Has anyone in the UK (or anywhere really) experienced these symtoms as well: runny nose & sneezing, recurring aches and pains, difficulty breathing, chesty cough, a temperature that keeps going up and down, slight delerium/disorientation, fatigue, sore throat, periodical headache, nausea? I went to the doctor a couple of days ago, and he said I had a virus that has been affecting many other people - so much that they had to open on a Sunday and a bank holiday. Then he told me it could take weeks to clear, which is wonderful because I've seriously had enough of this!! I don't know if I've posted in the right forum, but I couldn't see a place specifically for unspecified viruses. But, can anyone help? Have you had something similar, and if so can you recommend any remedies that might help me get better faster?

I just picked up Elderberry extract the other day. I read over 10 years ago of its benifits. I just came accross the below pasted data and wanted to share...

Fighting the Flu
Elderberry extract is the primary ingredient in Sambucol, a patented flu-fighting medicine that was widely used in Europe during the outbreak of the H1N1 influenza virus. Research at Hadassah University Hospital in Jerusalem showed that the antiviral, anti-inflammatory properties in the patented elderberry extract helped reduced the duration of flu symptoms in patients to 3 to 4 days. The elderberry extract treatment was effective on eight out of 10 different types of flu viruses tested. When recovering, the flu patients who were treated with elderberry extract also showed higher levels of antibodies in their bloodstream than those flu patients who did not receive elderberry extract treatment. Check with your physician before pursuing a course of treatment involving elderberry extract.

You are right. I theoretically could be wrong. However every one that has tried the above mentioned all gotten better from the flu in a few days or prevented themselves from getting to the severe state of the flu. I never used the word promises. One may get better from the flue on their own in 5 days perhaps sooner with some help.

Shelly - statements like "You will be well in 5 days of trying all of the above" are dangerous.  Suggest things, don't make promises, because you never know.... you could be wrong.

Take vitamin D3 at least 2,000 IU daily. I take 10,000 IU daily. The body from sun light makes up to 80,000 IU daily so if 2,000 seems like allot, it isn’t. Olive Leaf extract is a natural anti-viral take 2 capsules every 4 hours. A cup of green tea made strong with 2 tea bags sweeten only with raw honey. Green tea is also a natural anti-viral. It stops the virus from being able to replicate.

Take daily 1 tablet of Selenium as "Selenium bound Yeast" and not the non yeast form as it is the form tested in studies indicating its efficacy against cancer and converted into antioxidant while in the liver. This substance also powers the immune system and allows it to overcome viruses. I have read how people have reduce viral loads to Hepatitis C and B just from this natural form of selenium.

A hot bath that induces a sweat will also reduce the level of flu virus as all viruses are heat sensitive. You will be well in 5 days of trying all of the above.

We had this type of virus over Christmas. It lasted about 2-4 weeks and we all came down with it to varying degrees. 2 of my children didn't get off the sofa for 3 or 4 days. Personally I think it's the H1N1 virus. Sit tight it will go away x

EBV? Mono?

Lots of sleep, warm foods, lots of fluid. I got put on prednisone to combat the fatigue (it was really bad, I was sleeping 20 hours a day and still feeling exhausted).  Frankly the prednisone SUCKED.... it combated the phsyical fatigue, but made my heart race and gave me mood swings. Ugh.

I don't know of anything that makes it go away faster.  I tried caffeine, that didn't help.  Sleep was the only thing that made me feel remotely better.

Good luck, and I'm sorry :(
