6mp and joint pain

by didoll, Oct 30, 2009 12:14PM
I have been on 6mp since july having changed from azathioprine due to complications, I am suffering severe joint/bone pain, my consultant is inclined to think this is due to the progression of the disease and is arranging a rheumatology appointment. But i remain unconvinced. I was diagnosed 15yrs ago and for the most part have controlled this through diet very effectively until the end of last year when a flare up got so bad i had to leave my job in luxembourg and return to the uk. It is now under control. At which point i drove 300 miles without any problems where as now i can't be in the car longer than 30 mins without extreme discomfort. I feel like an old woman when i get up in the morning until i get going, the minute i stop for 10 mins and sit down - same problem. All the medical leaflets mention joint pain as a side effect but go into no further detail. Has anyone else had the same problems? if so did stopping the 6mp reverse this issue and if so after how long?

Hi,
Joint pain has been reported as a  side effect of 6MP. But it is not very common.
If a person with IBD on treatment complains of joint pain the first thing that is considered is a flareup.
