9 month old twins with FPIES

by nmbrunk2, Oct 30, 2009 02:55PM
I have 9 mo. old twins who have reacted with intestinal symptoms to milk, soy, rice, and sweet potato.  We have not successfully started any solid foods.  They are on an amino acid based formula.  They are not eating well.  They consume only 65 to 85 calories per kilo.  My daughter averages 70 and my son averages around 80.  I am concerned about the possible damage done to their intestinal lining before they started the aa formula at 2 months.  We have been trying to put them on solids since 6 months but keep having to stop and let the gut heal after each try - mucus and blood in stool.  They have also had a chronic yeast diaper rash for over 3 months (this seems to coinside with attempting solids).  My daughter is now refusing to take her bottle and really seems to want food.  We have so much advice from many docs and I have no idea what to do next.  She seems very constipated and/or uncomfortable with gas or cramping and has a love hate relationship with her bottle.  Is colitis a chronic condition?  Is yeast in the intestines making things worse?  Any other ideas - even some sort of metobolic issue?  I should also say that they have always consumed less than most babies and up until now have gained wieght beautifully.
