Burst Colon / Large Intestine

On 10/28/2010 I felt an immediate sharp pain in my lower abdomen which was accompanied by cold chills and fever.  It was so excruciating that I could barely inch my way out of bed.  2 days later my blood pressure dropped to 76/29 so I called 911 and was taken to the hospital via ambulance, had a CAT Scan, and then surgery removing part of my large intestine, cleaning out my bowel and stitched and stapled up leaving a stoma poking out.  What could have caused this?  Do you think it burst initially or 2 days later when I went to the emergency room because I waited?  What is this called and what do I have to look forward too now?

It could be due to ischemic colitis or diverticulitis with perforation.
What was the CAT scan report?
