Crohn's/proctitis/diverticulitis/blood clots HELP!

by JSuri, Jul 22, 2008 09:36PM
Hi there!
I have been really sick for a year come August.  I was diagnosed with Crohn's 15 years ago.  Last August I had a full blown flare (aLL OVER MY INTESTINES). I also had 2 bouts of c-diff, 2 blood clots (due to a pic line). I had diverticulitis.  In addition every side affect you can get from steroids and transfusions I have had.  Anyway, this has been going on a year. I flare in one place then another then another.  I had a resection done (they took out my sigmoid colon). The only place that never heals is the proctitis. Apparently it is severe.

Is there a surgical option or any option  to make my life a bit more enjoyable.  I really dont want to be on a permanent bag.  Is there a procedure that can be done temporarily to let the proctitis heal... What are the options out there? I have a plan to see a surgeon but since he is so good I cant get in for a few months.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
You can try steroid foam along with oral 5 ASA.

Have you tried Pentasa suppositories for your proctitis? They are most effective in my case in helping to manage my symptoms.
I find that oral medication alone is not effective in treating proctitis and liquid enemas are usually effective from 20cm upwards, so they tend to bypass the rectum area where the proctitis is.
Best of luck.

Hi there,

Yes I am on suppositories and steroids and colazol and humira and synthroid and pain meds.... nothing seems to work. I also had a resection.  I am so miserable with this.  I have such urgency all the time.  The bleeding is horrible.  I am now anemic and get iron transfusions. Thanks for your response.  If you have any other suggestions let me know
