Lab Report Results

I am a crohns/colitis patient and was in the hospital last month for my fourth rectal abcess (abscess) in 3.5 years. I am seeing a colon/rectal surgeon next week. I just had a cat scan with the following findings:

Subtle tubular density extending from the right rectum to just inferior, and post lateral relative to the anus. Possible residual fistula. No evidence of associated abscess or collection.

Can you please tell me what exactly this means in laymens terms?

Also, what could a surgeon do that would prevent this from re-occuring?

Hi wrknwmn,
Fistula is tubular tract with one opening in the lumen of the intestien and the other opening externally on the skin. Fistula formation is a complication of Crohn's disease.
Your CT report says that you  have a fistula.

Recurrence can be prevented by taking appropriate medications.
