My 4 year old son has stomach pain

by Sai387, Jun 10, 2008 02:14PM

Hi Doctor, my 4 year old son always mentions his chest pain when ever I offer him some food. Usually we will eat Indian food with lot of lentils and moderate white meet. His stomach is like “BLOTED BALLON” and if you pock the finger in his tummy, it will bounce back. He passes lot of gas with loud noise.  He weighs  36 pounds and one more important thing is that he snorers while sleeping since the birth. We took him to the E&T specialist and said that’s normal or may be because of the allergies. Recently he had a bad cold and noticed some sound when he is breathing. We took him to the pediatriation and she told us that his tonsils are   touching each other and due to that he is not able to breath. Now my biggest concern is

1) Why my son is saying some chest pain when I offer him some food and he burps in the middle . (Not any time else, except at the time of eating)?

2) Why my son’s stomach is like a bloated balloon. (Honestly, it’s exactly like that only)?

3) Why he is passing such a long and loud gas?

4) Is doctor is going to perform the “Tonsillitis”? if yes, what are the disadvantages?

I hope you will understand one mother’s fear for her son’s condition.

Thank You.

Hi Sai,
Your son appears to have symptoms of GERD,
Snoring could be due to enlarged adenoids (adenoids). Enlarged tonsils are different from inflammed tonsils. Tonsils are removed if there is recurrent infection or the enlarged tonsils are problematic.

The bloating could be due to H.pylori infection or irritable bowel syndrome.

my daughter was born with a severe case of GERDS ( which is reflux) when refluxing severely it causes the chest to hurt, and with the bloating one of my children has irratable bowel syndrome,  and that does cause alot of gas, and both of my children snore and they said it is due to allergies, and with the tonsilectomy it is better to have the tonsils took out as a child than a adult. you should try taking him to a gastro specialist , if it is either reflux or irratable bowel he would be able to diagnose.  good luck and god bless
