My son's UC

My son's UC

My 27 year old son has suffered with UC for 7 years.  He only recently told us.  He is now on disability and very depressed.  The specialist he just started going to has increased his prednisone.  He is supposed to start IV treatments in 2 weeks.

My question is, what can we expect with this treatment, and what other meds can be helpful?

Hi,
Prednisone is generally given for moderate to severe UC. This is given only for a short duration of time and then tapered off. It is a very effective medication controlling  various symptomsof UC. After the symptoms are controlled, your son will be put on maintenance therapy with another medication.
He will need regular follow up to look for complications.
