Upper Abdominal pain

by Snowfly, Jul 05, 2009 01:44PM
So I have been suffering with a few problems recently.  But yesterday I had a onset of severe pain to my upper abdoman in the middle.  That came with the shakes, shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea and clammy feeling.  This pain was definately 10/10 the only way to describe it was it was like contractions.  I could hardly stand at one point and felt like I would pass out.  I was rushed to A&E.  They took a few tests.  They all came back normal, except for my liver function which came back slightly abnormal.  These pains lasted for about 45 minutes, but had 2 smaller attacks at the hospital.  I have had them before and always feel a tenderness to that area.

Bit of background.  I have had my Appendix out (was only slightly swollen though), have had pancreatitis, also had my gall bladder removed about 3 years ago (they say it looked abnormal and think it was cause of pancreatitis).  I am also suffering with itchy bottom at the moment, only a few internal small piles.  I had a bleed last week from my bottom which was a lot of blood.  I had not strained in fact I had just woken up!  So bleed was for no reason.  I do get some small amounts of blood caused by piles but this was a lot!  Have a lump to the back of my groin, upper of my thigh, think it a cyst, it the size of a pea.  Suffering with knee aches and pains at the moment too also getting constipation.  Get the odd lower stomach cramps but this upper one frightened me.

So wondering if it is all connected to the really severe pain I had yesterday.  I did take 10mg of morphine for lower cramps that morning, I did have slight pain to upper abdominal then, but it got worse after morphine, although the lower cramps got better.

Thank you for any light shed on this, it is depressing me

Please also note I have been suffering with on and off tummy troubles since I was about 14, I am now 30.

Hi,
Severe abdominal pain in the middle of the upper abdomen could be due to peptic ulcer or pancreatitis.
Since you have had pancreatitis, this could probably be a fresh attack of pancreatitis. Serum amylase/lipase, ultrasound scan /Ct scan abdomen may be done.
Peptic ulcer can be ruled out with upper GI endoscopy.

Thank you so much for your help.  I am scared this could be Chronic Pancreatitis, I do get flare ups once in a while that are extreamly severe and do feel it to be the same pain and same area as panreatitis that I had before.  The tenderness is always there and onset of back pain.  I get nauseous too.  This is really getting me down and interfering in the day to day of my life.  Would you say Chronic Pancreatitis from what I have explained could be a possibility as my bloods seem only slightly raised each attack to liver function.
Thank you so much
