What causes high AST, ALT & GGT levels

by nindy, Oct 04, 2009 07:37PM
I recently had blood work done for a life insurance policy and gto the results back in the mail and was denied due to these levels. There were as follows: AST 507, ALT 681 and GGT 271. According to the norms that were on the paper they sent me these are very high. I have been having problems that I have been thinking are my gallbladder. I do not have insurance so I am wondering do I need to rush to the doctor or does this sound like it is probably something normal and I will get to the doctor when I have a sever gallbladder attack?

Hi,
These levels are quite high.
You should goto your doctor immediately.
The most probable causes are viral hepatitis, drug induced hepatitis, alcoholic fatty liver disease/nonalcoholic fatty liver disease ( depending on whether you consume alcohol or not).
