colitis or proctitus

about every 14-16 months i get very bad bleeding....i feel like i have a BM  but usually gas and very little BM,,,but when i wipe   i have had from a few drops to dripping blood....this will last a  few weeks....i,m on asacol and canasa...dr said it is proctitus......but when i look up symptoms  it sounds like colitus.....please help confused,,,,,also asacol does not seem to make things better....

Hi,
Proctitis causes painful ineffective defecation.
You can undergo colonoscopy to find out which part of the intestine is involved.
If you feel you are not reponding to asacol, you may have to either modify the dose or add another drug which your gastroenterologist would be able to do.
