colitis ulcerative

i have had colitis since september . was`treated in germany by given steroids  called Prednisolon first month 40 mg per day then  30 mg 20 mg 10 mg decreased after that each months. now i only take 5 mg per day. I also take Pentasa 1000mg. nothing is improving .when i use to  take the 40 mg per day it was better for a while. but the doctor had told me that it was not good to treat colitis too long on steroids.so he decreased the dose. should i go back to 40 mg per day.

i still have a lot of problem and wonder if there are other alternative and other kind of steroids. or better medecine in the US. ?
also  would this ever stop ?
. I had a colonoscopy and evrything was`Ok. just these ulcers at the bottom of the intestine .
if you suggest other medications since I am from out of town , can I order them through you the same way on line

thanks a lot

Hi Jean Paul,
You have said that your colonoscopy was normal .
I would like to know what exactly you mean by - "not improving".
Long term steroids at high doses is not good for health.
There are many alternatives available for the treatment of ulcerative colitis like immunomodulators and biologic therapy.
