is ulcerative colitis contraindicated in breastfeeding?

by Cindy74, Jun 18, 2009 10:59PM
I'm an RN and I have U.C. (currently quiescent).  I bottle fed my first 2 babies as noone had a good answer whether I could breastfeed.   The "best guess" was to not pass my abnormal immune system on to the baby via colostrum and breastmilk.   Now, I'm pregnant with my 3rd and final and am wondering (yet again) if I can breastfeed.  Hasn't the baby already been exposed to my immune system?
Thanks, Cindy
