mucous in stool

I have been having a lot of mucous in my stool lately.  There is no blood.  I occasionally have cramps while having a bowel movement.  Also, lately I feel like my colon is having muscle spasms for a few seconds each day, which is a little uncomfortable. I am 30 years old and do not smoke or drink.  Why is there so much mucous in my stool?  Thank you so much for your time.

Hi,
A little amount of mucus in stool can be considered normal.
But large amount of mucus may indicate colitis.
IBS can cause mucus in stools along with spasms.Probiotics along with antispasmodics will be helpful.
A stool examination can be done to rule out infection.
Consult your doctor for complete evaluation.
