passing gall stones

by andy38, Jul 27, 2008 04:19PM
I started last monday with pain in my upper right side in my chest and back. I went to the er on tuesday night after eating and the pain got really bad. They sent me home with pain meds and told me it was gall stones and to call the surgeon to have my gallbladder removed. The pain did not go away it only got worse. So I went back to the er and they did more test wich was a ultrasound again, and a ct scan. They now said there are no stones and that they had passed into my intestines. About halfway through the night on thursday the pain actually went away. Is this possible for this to happen? And should I still go see the surgeon?

Hi andy38,
This can happen. The gall stones can pass down the bile duct in to the intestines.
Once it is in the intestine it wont cause any pain unless the stone is really big to cause obstruction.
