recurring diverticulitis

Last year I had surgery to remove my sigmoid colon for recurring diverticulits.  SInce then, I have had 2 more flare ups about 4 months apart.  It seems to stay away while I am on antibiotics, but still returns afterwards.  I am 51 years old, male, and have diverticulitis in my family.  I am working with an infectious disease specialist right now, but he really doesn't know what to do.  I need to find a Dr. or clinic that specializes in this disease.  Can you lead to to someone?  I am in the Olympia, Washington area.

Hi daviddavid,
I am from another country and  I dont think I would be able to lead you to a GI doctor in your area.

Recurrence is seen in about 10% of the patients after surgery.A high fiber diet may help in preventing recurrence.
