Barium Enema

I had a Barium Enema done a week ago and i just got my results. What do these results mean?

SEVERAL FILLING DEFECTS ARE NOTED THROUGHOUT THE BOWEL CONSISTENT WITH RESIDUAL FECAL MATERIAL. A SMALL POLYPOID LESION CANNOT BE CATEGORICALLY EXCLUDED. AS CLINICALLY INDICATED, CONSIDER COLONOSCOPY CORRELATION.

It looks like they did not get the best imaging because there was residual stool in your colon, however you may have a small polyp, and you shoud have a colonoscopy exam.

Don't worry too much.  They are not sure there is a polyp, just can't rule it out.  Also, not all polyps are cancerous, or even pre-cancerous.  Ask for colonoscopy, that way the doctor can visualize the area and if there is a polyp it can be removed for biopsy.  Colonoscopy is no big deal.  The prep is a bit unpleasant but you won't even remember the exam itself.  It can save your life.  Good luck.
