Colon cancer?

by drummer07, Mar 10, 2009 01:48PM
I am 56 years old.  I have had alot of lower left side pain.  I had a double contrast barium enema 3 years ago.  I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy 1 year ago.  They found diverticulosis in the x-ray.  On the flex-sig they found internal hemorroids (hemorrhoids).  I think I seen blood in the toilet and am really scared.  Could this be Colon Cancer so soon after the simoidoscopy?  Does colon cancer casue alot of pain?  I cannot have a colonoscopy becasue of sedation problems.  I am wandering if any of you have had a problem or advice for this now.     Diana

You are in the age range where colon cancer occurs - and, since a sigmoidoscopy might not visualise all the portions of the colon that could be affected by colon cancer, I would suggest trying to find a way to receive a full colonoscopy.  Sometimes this procedure is undertaken without sedation - but it seems worth exploring with your surgeon/specialist whether there is another form of sedation that might suffice.

To find out more about colon cancer, I suggest that you type in colon cancer to google/yahoo etc and explore one of the many web sites that provide information.

I am not saying that I think that you do have colon cancer but I so strongly urge you to take the necessary tests either to eliminate the presence - or (hopefully not) - confirm it.

If you do not have colon cancer then all will be well - but if you do then colon cancer is generally curable as long as treatment is not delayed which couild be the case if procrastination is allowed to prevail.
