Freaking out!

Freaking out!

Im a 27 year old female. recently i went to a doctor and he told me that, from what i tell him and his hundreds of questions and physical exam, that he thinks i have bowel cancer. he did not suggest anything else. he was about to refer me to a surgeon for a colonoscopy but before he did, he asked me about my medical coverage and told me that since im not covered that he couldnt refer me to anyone and couldnt continue the visit.

now here i am 2 months later, i now have medical insurance, im about to go in for a doctors visit (different doctor!) and im quite worried. its been a very long 2 months since that doctors visit, im falling apart. ive been mentally tortured since he told me he thinks i have cancer, since i had no way to find out for sure at the time.

-every couple of weeks i have extremely bloody stools. the blood is mixed in with it, and also on its own. it also bleeds when im not on the toilet, though rarely.

-i have intense abdominal pain, bad enough to wake me up from a dead sleep, that are usually relieved by having a bowel movement.

-very inconsistant stool. sometimes like water, sometimes just loose, sometimes constipated.

-often feels like something is blocking.

-frequent urges to go, but not always able to.

-lots of fatigue, listlessness, sleepy ALL the time. like sitting at my desk at work and falling asleep. this is after i get a full 8 hours sleep. its ridiculous. dont know if it has anything to do with the stomach problems though.

any opinions are welcome. my husband just says to not worry because people my age hardly ever get colon cancer, but i dont know. ive been dealing with these symptoms for a long time, and theyre getting worse and i just need to hear what people outside to the situation think.

thank you

How considerate of the doctor that you visited to place financial matters above medical priority/necessity.  Don't go back to him.  If I may offer an opinion (but as a non-USA citizen) it perhaps demonstrates the merits of Obama's health bill.

Colon cancer normally develops at age 40+ but there are postings in Medhelp whereby this condition has been diagnosed at an age as young as ~20 - but usually only where there is a family history of cancer.  In my opinion the two month interval should not have affected your position and the key factors are early diagnosis and treatment (rather than the postponment of medical advice for years).

Anyway, obviously you should seek prompt medical advice from a G.I. specialist and I would imagine that a detailed colonoscopy should be the next step.  There are specialist G.I. Clinics such as the Mayo Clinics in the USA whereby a thorough programme of investigations are undertaken by G.I. specialists and I would encourage you to seek a prompt appointment at such a clinic.
