Unless the cause of the rectal bleeding are positively identified as minor (i.e. anal fissure, haemorrhoids etc) I suggest that your husband insists on a colonoscopy. Likewise insist on a cystocopy if the diagnosis for the urinary bleeding is unspecific.
The first step in seeking a solution is to seek prompt medical advice and not to ignore the symptoms. Rectal and urinary bleeding is never normal. Type in rectal bleeding to google or yahoo in order to learn more about possible causes. The Medicinenet site is particularly informative. You may like to do the same with the medical name for bleeding ex the bladder which is, I believe, haematuria (or similar). Or if that does not work I guess "blood in urine". Then you can visit the relevant doctors "with knowledge" rather than "in ignorance"
