post colon surgery complications

i have a question regarding post colon surgery, my brother is 31 he had a surgery of the colon may/09 part of the colon was remobed now he is with a bag the part of the colon that was attached to the skin died and his dr told him to just watch it and if he started having problems passing stool to go to the er, today he noticed that his stomach was bloated and sore he is at the hosp today they are going to do a ct scan i dont know why they didnt do this since that pice of intestine died why wait, can someone please help me. thank you
