small intestine

Hi,
My brother-in-law had Bladder Cancer about 5 years ago.  A doctor in CT.  removed his bladder and gave him a bladder
from his colon.  His small intestine is blocked or twisted.  I hope he pulls through.  Should he be on a special diet?
Thank you,
Mary

Hi,

It would be best to discuss the problem with the doctor. If there is indeed an obstruction, then the passage of food may be problematic, and hence no food may be best, but an intervention may be required to relieve or to bypass the obstruction.  If there is only a partial or a functional obstruction, then the food which would promote faster transit time may be helpful (such as fruits and vegetables), it may also be important to make the meals smaller but more frequent so as the load of food coming into the intestines would be smaller as well. Stay positive.
