Hypothyroidism

I am looking for a doctor/nutritionist who can help me help myself.  I do have a physician who is wonderful but not familiar with how to help hypothyroidism through nutrition and supplements.  I am very over weight, very puffy looking, my hair is dry and bendy/wavy and totally out of control, I am exhausted even when I wake up, easily angered, easily depressed, no motiviation.  I also have avascular necrosis and have issues with knees and hips.  I have had left hip replaced.  I a MESS !!  I need real advise and real direction on how to get this under control.  I do not excersice and I do smoke one pack a day.  I have two children, 10 & 12.  My life requires me to function at high speeds and I just can't most of the time.  I have tried to do some research on my own.  Very confusing.  I know I should be taking Calcium, magnesium, vitamin D, Co-Q10.  I have had 2 vitamin B12 shots in the past which seemed to give me energy but not sure how good they are for you.  I know that if I do not straighten my situation out it is only going to get alot worse.  I need Dr. Oz.  Are u out there???  Thank you.
elwoodmomof2  Oh, I guess I should mention that my focus, concentratrion and memory seem to be very effected also.  Oops, almost forgot, I have chronic asthma too.  I had mono when I was about 15 years old.

The question is, why are you hypothyroid, and did your doctor diagnose you this way or are you just guessing?  If it's due, for example, to an autoimmune disorder, then you probably can't fix it without medication and need the treatment of an endocrinologist.  If you're just low on your blood tests, the traditional treatment for hypothyroidism is iodine, usually in the form of seaweed such as kelp and hijiki.  None of the supplements you mentioned affect the thyroid.  Often, dealing with the adrenals goes along with working with the thyroid.  Many herbs help with the adrenals, including eleuthero, ashwaghanda, rhodiola if you don't have an anxiety problem, and many others.  Diet is of course also very important, especially antioxidant rich vegetables and fruits and limiting intake of stimulants such as caffeine, sugar, and the like that will over the long term weaken the adrenals and your thyroid.  Of course, this is all only if you genuinely have lowered thyroid that isn't caused by a failure of your thyroid or autoimmune disorder, in which case, again, this wouldn't probably help and could hurt.  Proper diagnosis is always the first step.  If you don't like what the docs are doing, try seeing a holistic nutritionist.

You have multiple problems.I have a plan of action for you. You have to help yourself.
Start doing these exercises four times a day. Smoke only if you are desperate.Let me know how much of this you are following. Tell me regularly, what difference you notice, then I will advise further. It is important to do the anulom vilom, to get the brain functioning well first. It is all up to you.

Thyroid point – press (50 times) the fleshy bit on palm between  the base of thumb and wrist on both hands. You will feel pain when you press.Do this four times a day.

Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.
Kapalbhati pranayam -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for 20 to 30 minutes twice a day. Children under 15 years – do 5 to 10 minutes twice a day.
Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently.

Anulom Vilom pranayam –
Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril
then -keeping the left nostril closed  deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Repeat this cycle for 15 to 30  minutes twice a day.
Children under 15 years – do 5 to 10 minutes twice a day.
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.

Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close ears with thumb, index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes. Breathe in through nose. And now breathe out through nose while humming like a bee.
Duration : 5 to 21  times.
