Look up the company Planetary Herbals on the net -- they have a mullein based supplement for the lungs. Also a company named Ridgecrest herbals makes a product for the lungs. Might help, over time, to soothe this. I'd also take a good liver cleanse, assuming you're not on medication for something (liver cleanses can clean out medication before it gets into your system). These are mostly milk thistle based, but there are a great many herbs that help with the liver (dandelion root, turmeric, yellowdock, burdock, just to name a few). Enzymatic Therapy makes a good combo. Might help to clean out the toxins that are stored in your system from the smoking, at least to some extent.

I've heard of a temporary increase in coughing. This article agrees. It suggests simple things to try. Maybe Cepacol throat spray would help since it numbs the throat.
