Many children are very sensitive to certain foods and dyes. Allergy testing is helpful as well as a food elimination diet, too high sugars, dyes, juices etc. your dr may be able to recommend a particular elimination diet. My son reacted the same way when he was young. He had a motor in him constantly. He was allergic to many things that made him behave the way he did. Once the food elimination was in place, I had a well behaved, calm child.
He is 26 now and still has to watch what he eats because certain food are still triggers, especially dyes. We had to learn and read labels. This is much better than giving a child a med especially if the problem can be solved easily with foods.

Also, not getting enough sleep, or taking in too much sugar can rev him up.

Ernie- as a pediatric nurse of 20 years, I would strongly suggest talking with your son's doctor about your concerns. Medication is not always needed or suggested with behavior problems in little people. He may need some kind of therapy- you should ask his doctor.
