Applying Dental Sealants improperly

Hi,
When a few of my molars were first growing in my dentist placed sealants on them to prevent cavities.  It is now over 10 years later and they were worn down so I asked my new dentist to put them back on because they worked well for me.  I came in to the office and they started putting them on before they even cleaned my teeth!  They just painted the sealant on and used the light wand to harden them.  This seems fishy.  I could have had food particles in my teeth and they would just be sealed in.  I know the first time I had sealants my dentist spend an extra long time cleaning before they were placed, but that was not the case this time. Now it is two years later and six of my molars need to be filled.....coincedentally they only re-sealed six of my teeth.  Did they put the sealant on incorrectly on purpose so I would have to get these teeth filled?  Maybe it doesen't matter if they clean the teeth because there is no oxygen to the bacteria.  Please I would like to know if I need to get a new dentist/hygenist if they are setting me up for failure...

Dear Patient
Based on what you are describing it does sound fishy. But again sealants usually do last 2 years. Now some do last longer if one has deep grooves. Yes you are right to have the teeth pumiced, etched, lasered, or sandblasted prior of applying the sealant.
You always have the choice of changing dentist, if you are not happy.
