Bone Grafting

Bone Grafting

I got in an accident when I was really young and my front tooth fell out and was put back. Over the years the root of my front tooth started to disappear and my tooth is of a grayish color now. It is really loose now, but it is still there.

When I asked the doctor for a dental implant, he told me the procedure step by step.  He said that upon inserting the screw into my gum, he will also have to fill the empty space with bone (and he called this bone grafting). He said it in a way that made it seem like everyone required bone grafting, More specifically, he said because the root of a tooth is cone shaped and a screw is a pole shape, there will be empty space that will have to be filled up cow bone. Is this a necessary procedure for all patients? Would I expect every doctor to do this?

Your dentist was probably presenting to you immediate implant procedure, in which condition bone graft appears to yield more promising result.
