Dull Tenderness in Socket after 10 years

I had my tooth extracted 10 years ago,  I still feel a dull  pain in the socket area, it has been on going and  is very annoying.  Can the be an infection in the bone? My dentist see nothing from his  the xrays.  When I press upward against the gum, I feel the dull pain sensation. I sometimes scratch on area at time to get relief.  Should I have a gum scan or MRI done to see what's going on?.  Your comment would be greatly appreciated.

Seeing an orofacial pain specialist is advised.
