Going for a crown after root canal

by ruchi555, Jun 26, 2009 03:50AM
HI,

i have just gone through root canal treatment and now i want a crown for that tooth to save the filling.

BUt my dentist says that he might need to cut the gum as my tooth's end part and gum is at same level, so he can fit the crown without cutting the gum.

Any guidance appreciated.....

m afraid of what hes gonna do with my gum :(

Hi,
If the decay is too close to the bone, then they have to do a procedure called crown lengthening. Make sure that the dentist who does it has proper training. There are right ways of doing this procedure and there are wrong ways. Make sure that the dentist has taken extensive courses in this, not just a one or two hour lecture. But generally, I would recommend seeing a periodontist.
