Healing After Extraction

by MsManda76, Jun 23, 2009 02:36PM
I had my teeth extracted for dentures, 21 teeth total. 11 on the top (including one wisdom) and 10 on the bottom. I had this done 5-7-09, and they are still not completely healed. I was wondering what the average heal time is, and if wearing my dentures is preventing them from closing all the way and healing.

Thank You

Hi on the average the healing time is about 2-6 weeks. Wearing the dentures could affect it. Make sure you do get a soft liner or a medicated liner inside the denture and the bite is perfect meanwhile. A big part of the healing process is related to your age, overall health, the condition of hte teeth that were removed, the gum and bone condition in your mouth and your diet.

Well, it has been almost 7 weeks I believe. I am using adhesive and I wonder if that is the problem. I am 33, and my overall health is good aside from smoking. I do have bone pieces coming out, but was told that was normal. The condition of the teeth was pretty bad, they were broken and had cavities, that was why they were pulled.

Then definitely see your dentist and have them change the soft liner inside your denture and evaluate the areas to make sure that all bone chips and sharp ledges are smooth. This will help you with the healing.
