Jaw lock and facial numbness

Jaw lock and facial numbness

Attended my dentist nearly 3 weeks ago for a check up. Dentist suggested that I might require a filling in bottom left wisdom tooth, which was not giving any problems but I agreed to have filling carried out.
After the injection wore off I felt my jaw was very painful, took some pain killers and went to bed.
Next morning I could not move my jaw and had excrutiating pain in jaw and the tooth which was filled.
I left it for a few days expecting the symptoms to ease off, unfortunately they have continued to get worse!
I am struggling to eat any thing as I can only open my mouth about 12mm and it is extremely painful to chew.
The last 3 days my face has gone numb on one side and my ear is very painful ( tooth is still sore as well ).
I have been back to the dentist a couple of times. He thinks that the injection has gone into the jaw muscle and that it will settle down soon ( no other treatment offered ).
I am at my wits end! should I seek help from my doctor or should I wait a few more days to see if symptoms fade?

Limted mouth opening may be caused by muscle spasm or internal derangement of tmj. Seeing a tmj specialist is advised.
