Pain after permanent crown

Pain after permanent crown

I saw this question answered a few times already, but I thought I'd ask again about my situation.  I have had 2 crowns done in the last month and with my insurance I had to pay $755 each for them.  The first one hurt to bite down after the permanent crown was put on, but they adjusted it and now it feels better....still sensitive to hot and cold though.  The permanent crown was put on the 2nd one 2 weeks ago.  First of all, this crown feels nothing like my original tooth....it doesn't have the same shape.  I have pain when I chew on that side, so I went back and had it adjust twice.  This crown feels so flat.....it really bothers me.  It still hurts when I chew.  It doesn't hit any other tooth...it never really did.  They said that the cavity was pretty deep in that tooth...it was starting to turn dark, but the tooth didn't hurt at all. Neither one of them did.  So, they took an x-ray and said to give it a couple days.  They gave me a referral to endodontist.  If they decide to do a root canal, I'll have to pay another $600 out of my pocket.  Why didn't they just do the root canal in the first place?  Everyone I know that has a crown has had a root canal.  I've already spent $2000 of my own money at this dentist in the past 3 months.  My dental insurance is terrible and it runs out in June.  I have been laid since the end of January.  How do they expect me to keep shelling out money?  Can I just have the tooth pulled?
I am just very disappointed that I paid so much money for a tooth that feels like nothing like my original (maybe that's why it hurts) and for a tooth that now causes me pain.  Now I have to come up with more money for a procedure, that I feel, should've be done in the first place.

Pulpitis-like symptom can be casued by occlusal trauma of new restoration. Seeing an endodontist and occlusionist or prosthodontist is avised.
