Pain after root canal and apicoectomy.

by Beabun, Oct 14, 2009 02:58PM
I have had a a root canal on tooth number 5.  It continued to cause pain and my dentist resealed the root canal twice.  Then sent me to an oral surgeon who did an apicoectomy.  That specific pain is better but now I have pain in the sinus area and presssure/pain is seem in my teeth.  Oral surgeon x-rayed it again and, from what he described, cleaned out the sinus and retrieved lots of old dried blood and said the sinus was clean when he was done.  It kept hurting so I went back and he doesn't believe it's a dental problem but a sinus problem.  He did say he could pull the tooth but didn't think that would solve my problem.  Two ENT doctors both said is not a sinus problem.  I had a CAT scan of sinuses and no problem.  One ENT still insists its a dental problem, the other ENT said she believes it could be a nerve problem and coudl inject the area, which I think would hurt a lot as that's a tender area.  The ENT Dr. even suggested an herbal drink, 2 ounces, day for a week, because another patient had sinus pain after a dental procedure and it helped her.  So I tried that as well, no help.  It sometimes hurts without touching my cheek.  It always hurts if I touch the area right beneath my eye in the sinus area.  Always pressure but sometimes pressure with pain.  Should I return to ENT for injection or could my PCP do it?  The ENT said it would feel like an injection when I see my dentist.  I'm hesitant to go back to the dentist as he'll just say its not the tooth.  The one ENT is the only one who suggested anything can be done.  Would the injection wear off after time and I'd be right back where I am now?  Thank you.

Toothache is not always odontogenic.Seeing an orofacial pain specialist is advised.
