Paste for dry socket

Thank you concerning the paste.  The Doctor mentioned a paste, but said that he didn't want to use it, as he would have to wash it out later.  She has been in pain for 8 days now, but has finally gotten some relief, after the 5th day she was given a syringe .  The Red Cross pack is excellent and contains one of the ingredients in the paste.
My new question is does the paste, if no gauze is involved, have to be washed out later or does it just dissolve.
