Removal of a subgingival crown

Can someone please confirm my understanding of subgingival PFM crown removal? My understanding is that a groove is cut vertically from the gingival margin to the occlusal surface, preferably on the buccal side just through to the cement, and then the crown is sprung open with a heavy instrument such as a Cumine scaler, Mitchell's trimmer or heavy chisel, breaking the cement bond. Sometimes the cut will also need to extend across the occlusal surface. Essentially a longitudinal cut is made on the surface of the tooth which penetrates through the bond and the crown is simply shimmied off. If there is difficulty shimmying off the crown a latitudinal cut can be made along the surface of the tooth to weaken the bond further and subsequently aid in the removal.
