Returning pain for dental onlay after 8 months

My original posting can be found with the title: Pain after temporary filling in preparation for onlay

Thos provide the initial details. This  past weekend though the same type of pain came back (~8 months later). It is intermittent pain which comes and goes. It might last an hour and go away for a few hours etc. Right now I dont have pain but i started the day with an advil. The doctor cannot see me till tomorrow.

I am still very disappointment with the situation given I had pain when I initially had the temporary filling and he still went straight to the gold onlay.

What do you expect is going on? I have had sensitivity in the area even though the pain stopped after August. Does this sound like irreversible pulpitis? What is it and if I need a root canal will the expensive 2 onlays need to be removed?

It all depends on the symptoms. If the pain is not going away, the you must look at the things that may cause this. It could be due to a  bad bite, it could be due to decay that was too deep on the tooth, it could be due to a crack on a tooth, etc. So I would suggest before jumping into having a root canal, have a well trained dentist evaluate all these. http://www.top3dentists.com/pages/endodontics   Here is some info on root canal in case you need it.
I would personally, start by first going to someone who has a high level of training an I would evaluate my dentist's training level. http://www.top3dentists.com/pages/prosthodontal These are the type of dentists who would have a high enough level of training to be able to look at all the angles.
Also, I would have a dentist who has proper training in endodontics or preferably an endodontist do my root canal treatment. If done properly, your onlays can stay intact and they can go through them and then place a filling over them.
Please keep us posted on the progress.
