Root Canal and Crown in one day

Is it acceptable and wise to have a root canal and crown work done in one day?

That is the only way I have ever had it done. They have to cover the tooth after doing the root canal and the crown is what covers it.  They do a temporary crown and you wear that until your permanent crown is made.
