Sore mouth after crowns

by Megs218, Jun 23, 2009 01:44PM
I just got two crowns put in. My mouth is very sore and my gums hurt. The dentist did not tell me about having any discomfort and kinda acted suprised when I told him I was "sore" Is this normal? Also....is it okay to eat and drink something?

Depending on the condition of your gums, this may or may not be normal. At times if the gums are swollen this could happen. A better oral hygiene is recommended. Eating and drinking depends on the type of crown and the type of cement that was used. Generally speaking, you would want to avoid eating sticky food for the first 24-48 hours. As for drinking you can drink water and juice, etc and that should be fine.

Remember that the tooth has gone through trauma by being crowned & it is going
to take time to feel 'normal' again......sometimes the bite changes.  Taking ibuprofen
for the discomfort & allowing the mouth to recover....it all takes time.
