Swollen parotid gland

Swollen parotid gland

My six year old daughter has a recurring swelling of her parotid gland on one side of her face. The first occurrence was in May 2008, about a month after she had an extensive amount of dental work done. Since then, it has happened on three other occasions gapped months apart. Is it possible that during dental surgery, some small sediment of a material used could have lodged itself in her salivary gland causing a blockage? If so,how would one check for this? I am just looking for a resolution to this problem if she does not "grow out of it" as I am told she may, it causes her a great deal of discomfort.
